METALS

All of our jewelry is nickel free.

GOLD PLATED — Gold plating is a thin layer of real gold over a base metal. We use 14k gold over brass in a layer much thicker than the industry standard. We stand by the quality of our gold plating. Plated jewelry is great because it doesn’t have to be polished, has a bright shiny look, and is a fraction of the cost of solid gold. Avoid scratching the surface by storing it in something soft so it won’t rub against other jewelry. Remove your plated pieces when working out, cleaning, or doing any other activities that can damage the surface. To prolong the life of the gold we recommend removing your jewelry when sleeping, swimming, showering, exercising, and using cleaning chemicals. Never use polishing cloths or jewelry polish on plated pieces. To clean, wipe with soft cloth after each wear. For heavily loved jewelry we offer re-plating.

GOLD-FILLED — We use gold-filled chain on many of our necklaces. Gold-fill is more durable and more expensive than plated metal. This is a process where a thick layer of gold is bonded to a base metal to create the look of solid gold at a fraction of the price. These pieces can be worn heavily without the gold rubbing off.

BRASS — An economical alternative to solid gold, when polished, the brass we use is an almost identical color to14k yellow gold. However, unlike real gold, brass will acquire a natural patina over time. Also known as tarnish or oxidation, this darkening of the metal is a chemical reaction that can be caused by many different things. Some examples include your bodies natural chemistry, humidity in the air, products used on the skin, or cleaning chemicals. Some love the antique look for brass and others prefer to keep it bright and shiny. To restore brass to its original luster we like to use Sunshine Polishing Cloths or for really stubborn tarnish, Simichrome Polish. The best way to store these jewels is out of humid rooms like the bathroom and in a jewelry box, pouch, or ziplock bag. Some people get the “green finger” reaction to brass while others have none at all. If you find your ring changing the color of your skin, don’t worry! It’s totally harmless. This reaction is more likely to occur when there is moisture between your finger and the ring. So be sure to take your rings off when washing your hands, working out, or swimming. You can also paint the inside of the ring with clear nail polish to create a barrier.

STERLING SILVER — Similar to brass, sterling silver can tarnish and should be stored in an airtight container or jewelry box. The best way to keep your silver jewelry from tarnishing is to keep wearing it. Sterling can be worn when showering, swimming, washing hands, etc. The only time we recommend removing silver in water is if there is a high sulfur content, which can lead to the metal darkening. You can use a polishing cloth or silver polish to remove tarnish, just be mindful of any gemstones.

STONES, PEARLS, AND GLASS

SEMI PRECIOUS STONES AND PEARLS — We use a variety of natural stones and pearls in our fashion collection. We recommend keeping them away from harsh chemicals. Because they are natural materials stones can vary in color and freshwater pearls can vary in shape.

GLASS — We use high quality Czech glass in many of our newer pieces. We chose to use glass vs stones because we love the translucence, how they catch light, and the consistency and saturation in color. The glass cabochons and beads we use are very durable but, like all glass, care should be taken.
